September sees the beginning of a new film season at Tideswell Cinema, and it is being launched with one of our popular Double Bills with meal on Saturday 8th September. At 4 p.m. we will show ‘Dunkirk’, winner of three of this year’s Oscars. After our meal (which needs to be pre-ordered), we will show the quirkily titled ‘The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society’, focussing on the island’s Nazi occupation. Places need to be booked by 6th September by emailing mail@tideswellcinema.com.
Our first monthly film, ‘Funny Cow’, is described by The Guardian as ‘grit and wit’. Maxine Peake plays a comedian during the 70s, and the story charts her rise to stardom, set against the backdrop of Working Men’s Clubs and the stand-up comedy circuit of the North of England. Drawing on her troubled past and using her dry wit, it delivers tragedy and comedy in equal measure. It will be shown on Tuesday 25th at 7.30 p.m., upstairs in the George. All are welcome, with a charge of £4 for guest members.
If you are interested in becoming a member, we have a few places left. For £25 you get free entry to 19 films during the season, as well as a week’s priority booking for our Live performances. Please email mail@tidewellcinema.com.
