Tideswell Cinema film

The 1974 classic thriller, ‘Chinatown’, is this month’s Tideswell Cinema film, to be shown on Thursday 26th at 7.30pm, upstairs in the George. Set in the 1930s, this ‘enduring masterpiece’ stars Jack Nicholson (regarded as one of his best performances), John Huston and Faye Dunaway, and is directed by Roman Polanski. A Private Detective, Jake Gittes, who specialises in matrimonial cases, is hired by the beautiful Evelyn Mulwray to spy on her husband. He soon finds himself plunged into a complex web of deceit, including municipal corruption and murder. Described as ‘thrilling, humorous and disturbing at the same time’, the film is the winner of three Oscars, and remains an all-time favourite.

Guests are welcome to join cinema members for £4, and there is no need to book. The George is happy to serve pre-show meals (01298 872840).
