Cressbrook Band’s annual Cressbrook Gala concert on Sunday 11 June, led to a invitation to play an almost unbelievable invitation.
During the concert we played Viva la Vida by the rock band Coldplay and our performance was videoed by a visitor to the village. The video found its way to Chris Martin and he was so impressed he invited Cressbrook Band to play the song at the final gig of the UK element of their world tour at the Principality Stadium Cardiff on 12 July 2017. Because there wasn’t the time to rehearse toegther, it was realised that it wouldn’t be possible for the both bands to play on stage together, but as Chris still wanted us to be there, it was suggested that we could play at the event and entertain the audience before Coldplay played their set. At a venue that holds up to 74,500 people depending on the stage arrangements, that’s a phenomenal gig ahead for Cressbrook band!
The band are proud and honoured to be invited to play and the fact that our village band has this opportunity to bring brass band music to a new audience on behalf of bands across the country is very exciting. In the year Glastonbury finally recognised brass bands with a fabulous performance from Black Dyke, our small but committed village band is very excited about taking brass music to another popular music venue.
