On Saturday 1 April many of our finest local bakers from age 5 upwards subjected their bakes to the scrutiny of former Great British Bake-Off contestant, Howard Middleton. Howard was meticulous in judging all the entries and the results were: Under 12’s: Winner–Theo Parsons; Well done–Toby Parsons Teens: Winner–Evie Gibbs and Molly Mitson Adults: Winner–Heloise King; Well done–Sally Huckle Savoury: Winner–Gray Holland Showstopper: Winner–Terri James; Well done–Sue Firth-Jones. Their prizes were wooden spoons signed by Howard.
The event raised over £750 for Team Kenya to support a disadvantaged community in Western Kenya. The charity supports girls to get educated, women to learn agri business to support their families, and communities to be self sustaining. One of the charity’s co-founders, Victoria Hancock Fell told us how the charity uses the money that is raised with the people of Ndhiwa. £600 is what it costs to send a girl to secondary school for a year. Jules and Alice would like to thank everyone who helped to make the event a success; the many volunteers who prepared the venue, served refreshments, sold raffle tickets, registered the bakers, sold their bakes and tidied up; Litton Band who entertained throughout; the many local traders who donated raffle prizes; and Howard Middleton, our generous judge.
