I am a Tideswell resident and surgeon working in Sheffield and Associate Postgraduate Dean for Health Education England(HEE) in Yorkshire and the Humber.
In January 2018, I will be walking the Last Degree (60 nautical miles) to the South Pole, by personal invitation from Robert Swan OBE, on his expedition ‘South Pole Energy Challenge’, the first polar expedition in history to using ONLY renewable energy. Using solar, wind and biofuels, no fossil fuels will be used on the 600 mile, 60 day man-haul across Antarctica arriving at the South Pole. The message being if alternative fuel sources can work in the most inhospitable place on Earth, they can work anywhere. I will be the only female member from the UK, in a small team of 10. Robert Swan has been in Antarctica in Dec 2016, testing out the technologies and equipment developed by NASA. All has performed better than expected and this is very promising.
My campaign to raise awareness of the expedition, of how we can reduce our carbon footprint and funds to get to 89º South, my starting point, is called ‘Step by Step’.

I am launching in the village with a presentation 6.30pm Thursday March 2nd upstairs at the The George Inn, with cheese and biscuits.
