It’s Advent already, and those of us with small children or chocolate addictions will be looking to the Advent calendars to begin the countdown. This year I’m going to do something a bit different – a ‘Reverse Advent Calendar’. Instead of taking something out each day I’m going to be putting something into a box for the High Peak Foodbank, and I’d love to encourage you all to do the same, on your own, in a family, or with friends.
It only needs to be something small each day, but it will help people around the area who need a little bit more help, especially in the chilly and dark days after Christmas. Paul Bohan of High Peak Foodbank has suggested the following items: UHT milk Toilet rolls Tinned fruit Tinned vegetables Vacuum packed beetroot Instant mash Pasta sauce.
I try to make sure that the best before dates are as long as possible (though I suspect it’s not an issue for a toilet roll…)
If you can drop your Reverse Advent Calendars off at the back of the Parish Church by 28 December or 4 January, local volunteers will collect them and get them over to the food bank by the end of the first week of January 2017.
