There have been a number of enquiries about progress with restoring the clock chimes to working order. As I write in September, Smith of Derby, the firm which services the clock and fitted the motorised winding mechanism some years ago, are a bit puzzled about a problem with one of the motors. Their quotation for a full investigation and repair is just under £900.
By the time you read this, the PCC will have met and discussed this, hopefully with more information from Smith’s; this is the second year running we’ve had a substantial bill for a repair to the chime mechanism. All being well, it’ll be repaired shortly, if it hasn’t already been done.
