Bishop Pursglove Sports Day

Well done to all those who took part in Sports Day at Bishop Pursglove school on the 23rd June. It was a most enjoyable afternoon; the weather was lovely, the tea and cakes laid on by Friends of School were delicious and the atmosphere was lively and fun. Children took part in a variety of events – sprints, egg-and-spoon, sack race, throwing and the relay race – with special races for pre-school children and competitive parents.

Competition was strong between the four ‘houses’ – Simpson, Longden, Lythgoe and Gosney (which I today learned are named after former supporters of Tideswell school and church). It was particularly lovely to see how the pupils, led by their house captains, supported and cheered their teammates – it certainly was the taking part which mattered.

That said, the raucous and competitive spirit of Gosney house paid off (encouraged in no small part by Mr Hough – he’ll be missed next year), and they won the trophy for the second year in a row. So, what was the best thing about sports day this year? “*Getting a ‘Sports Star’ sticker at the finishing line!*”, “*The dressing-up race!*”, “*Sitting on the grass in the sunshine!*” – it was all of these things.

Many thanks to all who made it such an enjoyable day.
