To quote Nahum Tate from his Birthday Ode to Queen Mary in 1694 as set by Henry Purcell and sung by over 80 voices in Tideswell Singers’ fifth ‘Come and Sing’ event. The day was a resounding success. The singers were joined by the University of Sheffield Chamber Orchestra to study Purcell’s Come ye Sons of Art and Pergolesi’s Magnificat. Throughout the day singers and orchestra worked with Tideswell Singers’ Musical Director, Carol Bowns and Dr Tim Shephard, Lecturer in Musicology from the university. The combination different styles seems to be something that people really like as they both enthuse the singers to give their best.
We had excellent feedback about the whole day – from the car parking to the cakes, cheese and wine – not to mention the performance which include superb soloists and a performance of Vivaldi’s lute concerto, transcribed for guitar. In fact some people told us that it was our best Come and Sing to date. Amazing!
As we approach a slightly more relaxing schedule over the summer, if you have been thinking about joining our choir, now would be a good time to do so! Tideswell Singers, is a well-established choir with open membership which means no auditions!
