As part of the fundraising programme for the refurbishment of Fountain Square Church, Scottish musician, singer and songwriter Barbara-Ann Wilson will be hosting a Burns Night at the church at 7.30pm on Saturday, 6th February. Songs and poems by Robert Burns will be accompanied by guitar, bagpipes (and maybe more), with a taste of a traditional Burns Supper of haggis, neeps, tatties and crannachan included in the ticket price.
Robert Burns is Scotland’s national poet, with an output not just of sensitive love songs such as A Red Red Rose and Ae Fond Kiss but of more boisterous pieces like Killiecrankie, Ye Jacobites, Scots Wha’ Hae and, of course, Auld Lang Syne.
Barbara-Ann has sung all over Scotland, both solo and with her own band Scotia
(see www.bandscotia.net, or bandscotia on YouTube). She has waived her fee for this evening so all proceeds will go directly to the Fountain Square Church project.
Tickets go on sale on 5th January at Peak Volumes bookshop (next to Tideswell Post Office) at £10 each; admission will be by ticket only. Because capacity is limited, they are likely to sell out quickly so make sure you get yours sooner rather than later. It should be a night to remember!
