‘Hugo’ is the enchanting film chosen to show this month, on Thursday 17th at 7.30pm in the George Inn. Set in a Paris railway station in 1931, it follows the story of an orphaned twelve year old boy who lives in the hidden chambers and passageways of the station, secretly maintaining the clocks. Directed by Matin Scorsese, it has a star-studded cast list including the wonderful Ben Kingsley, but Asa Butterfield as the young Hugo outshines them all. It received five Oscars in 2012 including Best Cinematography, as well as being nominated as Best Motion Film of the Year. All are welcome to come along, as guest members for the evening (£4). Why not make it a festive occasion by having a meal at the George first.
Early in the New Year, we will be having our annual Winter Double Bill, with a meal, at 4pm on Saturday 9th January. Escape the cold outside with a British romantic comedy-drama about love, life and time travel (Richard Curtis’s ‘About Time’), and the unusual tale of ‘The Lake House’, starring Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock. Further details and a booking form will be on the website by mid-December (www.tideswellcinema.com). As places are limited, you are advised to book early. Paper booking forms will be available from Margaret on 871681.
