Come along to Tideswell’s cinema in The George Inn on Tuesday 24th, to see ‘Testament of Youth’, a film based on one of the greatest wartime memoirs ever written. Vera Brittain’s autobiography. Set in the years of the First World War, this is a story of young love, the futility of war, and an attempt to make sense of the darkest times. Vera Brittain (Shirley Williams’ mother) grew up in Macclesfield and Buxton, and undertook wartime nursing in Buxton, so there is an element of local interest in this impressive film. It will be shown at 7.30pm, and all are welcome to come as members and guest members (£4). Why not make an evening of it by booking a pre-show meal – contact The George on 01298 871382.
