Dame Carol Ann Duffy, Poet Laureate, is coming to Tideswell!
On Saturday 26 September 2015 at 7.30pm Carol Ann Duffy will attend the Tideswell Arts Festival to give a reading of a selection of her poetry, to talk a little bit about her life as a poet, and to sign copies of her work.
Carol Ann Duffy’s work covers many subjects, and her collections are numerous. Her writing has continued apace since being appointed Poet Laureate. “I can’t speak for anyone else,” she said in 2014., “But having five years of being able to highlight poets and poetry has been incredibly rewarding and I’m looking forward to the next five. As a vocational poet who has written poetry since childhood, and also being the first woman poet, I have found the experience energising. So far it has been nothing but a joy.”
Carol Ann Duffy is a poet whose work is robust and captivating. She writes for children and adults, is often humorous, but doesn’t shy away from difficult subjects and doesn’t patronise her audience. If you would like to be entertained, challenged and have the chance to experience the work of a top-class poet first hand, get your tickets now! Tickets are £10 from Peak Volumes or online (www.tideswellfestival.co.uk).
Tideswell Festival update
Last year, feedback from the festival was, as you’d expect, contradictory!
· Concerts were too long/short/at the wrong time of day/just right
· There were too many/too few events
· Events were too expensive/ridiculously cheap
You get the idea!
So this year, there are three main events costing £5, £7.50 and £10 respectively, spread over two weekends, and hopefully some free workshops leading up to Carol Ann Duffy’s reading on 26 September.
Please support the festival if you can. Thank you.
