Friendly matches
Peak Park came to Tideswell on 21 July, and Tideswell avenged the defeat in Bakewell back in June, winning by a wide margin. The second match of the summer v Grindleford went the same way as the first – we were unable to raise a team, although that Sunday was totally wet so it made no difference. Sheffield Hitters visited Tideswell on 30 July and registered a second win of the summer.
League matches
Of the 3 matches this season scheduled v Hollinsend Methodists 3rd XI, the second, on 25 July at Hollinsend, made it 1-1 so far. Despite young Rohan Patel taking 4-37 and Hollinsend being bowled out for 157, Tideswell fell just short, making 134 all out in their turn.
On 1 August, second-placed Richmond CC were at Tideswell. Tideswell batted first and made a very creditable 164-7 off their 46 overs (Ian Hoverd 32*, Pete Nash 25*). The visitors were displeased when the rain came, as they were looking to cruise past this total, but if you recall the afternoon of 1 August, there were frequent and torrential showers which made it hard to stand up, let alone bowl. So although Richmond would rather have continued, the match was abandoned and the points were shared.
The following week Tideswell hosted the other promotion candidates, Norton Woodseats. With Greg Taylor taking 4-35, the visitors were bowled out for a very modest 118. This looked attainable, but it wasn’t to be. George Brown top-scored for Tideswell with 20, but the total of 74 was well short in the end.
There are just 4 League matches to go now. TCC are 6th in the league, just above the 2 relegation places, but still have the bottom team (Sheffield Collegiate 2nds) to play at Tideswell.
