Cinema Live

‘O beware, my lord, of jealousy; it is the green-eyed monster’ – but there’s no need to be jealous of people who hear this quote on the famous Stratford stage, because Tideswell Cinema brings Othello to you, live from the Royal Shakespeare Company, on Wed Aug 26 at 7pm.

Hugh Quarshie (Ric Griffin in the BBC medical drama Holby City) plays Othello, the Moorish general inflamed to jealousy, paranoia and murder by his devilishly clever subordinate, Iago (Lucian Msamati).

Staged in a crumbling Venice complete with canal and gondola, the production was described as “Electrifying, it feels as though history is being made,” by the Daily Telegraph.

Further forthcoming events include the wickedly funny Restoration romp The Beaux’ Stratagem, live from the National Theatre on Thur Sept 3 at 7pm, in which two dissolute young men resolve to marry for money.

And on Wed Sept 9 at 8pm we have How to Change the World – a documentary about the founding of Greenpeace in the 1970s by environmental protestors who sailed into an Alaskan nuclear test zone for their ideals. The award-winning film is followed by a live discussion from London hosted by Mariella Frostrup.

Each event is £10. Book through tideswellcinema@gmail.com or 01298 872993.
