Lancashire clog dancing and maypole dancing in a ballet? Unlikely as it sounds, both feature in the Royal Ballet’s joyous production of La Fille Mal Gardee, brought to you live on Tuesday May 5 (7.15pm) thanks to Tideswell Cinema at the George.
Despite its French title (trans: The Wayward Daughter), this final work by Frederick Ashton is a celebration of his English roots, woven into a tale of a ‘wild child’ and her battle to achieve true love.
Following that we have the National Theatre’s sell-out production of George Bernard Shaw’s Man and Superman, coming to you live on Thursday May 14 (7pm).
A romantic comedy, an epic fairytale, a fiery philosophical debate, Man and Superman asks fundamental questions about how we live. Ralph Fiennes – Lord Voldemort in the Harry Potter films – plays ‘superman’ Jack Tanner in this exhilarating reinvention of Shaw’s provocative classic.
The ballet is £15 (£12.50 concessions), the play £10. Book through tideswellcinema@gmail.com or 01298 872993. Cheques (to Tideswell Cinema) may be left at Tideswell Stores or posted to Tideswell Cinema, c/o 1 Manchester Rd, Tideswell, SK17 8LL. Please write name/date of production on back of cheque.
