A group of Year 6 pupils from Bishop Pursglove School watched a production of Treasure Island at the George Hotel. They reviewed what they had seen:
The theatre production was based on the book Treasure Island, but it had some slight changes. For example, the main character was played by a girl not a boy, but all the names were the same. It also had a bit of added humour and gore. In one part, Long John Silver sings a tune which causes one of the character’s stomachs to burst open.
One of our favourite characters was Gray. He was one of those people who just made the story funnier, but he also played an important part because he freed the people who were tied up.
The play had a balance between funny parts and dark parts. In one scene, Long John Silver talks and laughs with one of his crew but then he stabs him in the back.
You do get the odd joke to distract you from the darkness of it though.
We rate the production 9/10 for the balance between jokes and darkness. When we were watching it we kept on thinking that it was a film not a theatre production. The only reason we didn’t give it a 10/10 is because of how it was never set in the day and was always set at night.
Should you see it? We think you should see the production because it is based on the popular book Treasure Island. If you have read the book then you will really enjoy the theatre production too!
