Tidza Ramblers

It was a cold but bright morning for our first walk of the year. The strength of the wind soon became apparent as we climbed out of Eyam towards Bretton. The path down to Stoke Ford is superb with a sense that little has changed over the years. Colours seem more vivid in winter – bracken looked golden in sunshine and yellow gorse, bright. We paused for a hot drink on the footbridge where unusually no other walkers were around. The path leading to Eyam Moor is interesting too but there is a muddy stretch and one of us slithered down on this occasion. In the afternoon the sun was a white wintry circle and there was a fierce headwind as we walked along the track above Eyam.

I smiled when I had coffee next morning thinking of the same time the previous day when we’d sat happily in freezing temperatures with flasks opened and boots dangling above a stream. But without doubt it been an exhilarating and enjoyable walk.

It’s perhaps not the best time of year to mention that we would welcome newcomers. Our group is small but has a loyal following. There are more walks now than the one publicised. It’s convenient to be able to arrange these a few days beforehand to suit those interested. If you fancy joining us one Sunday please contact me to ask if a walk is planned.

We will understand if you prefer to wait for a rise in temperature.
