Community Kitchen Garden

BRILLIANT NEWS – on 13 January The Friends of Taste Tideswell heard that we had been awarded a generous grant by the Derbyshire Dales CVS so we can now buy all the essentials we need to keep the garden flourishing.

NOT SUCH BRILLIANT NEWS – on 22 December the overnight blustery winds played havoc with the polytunnel greenhouse to the extent that we had to take it down altogether. We planned to take it down in Spring anyway, but unfortunately we didn’t get the chance to sort out the inside first, but the good news is that it was all achieved very quickly with the help of Jim and Chris. Thankfully we had decided not to reglaze the new greenhouse until the spring so there was no damage there. The reglazing is our next major job and we plan to do it in March ready for next season’s seedlings.

PLANTING –on 17 January we finally got some garlic planted, it should have gone in on the shortest day of the year, but didn’t quite make it. We used some of last year’s crop, it worked last year so hopefully it will this year. Not quite as many as usual, we used to supply School of Food with lots of garlic and sadly we won’t be doing that this year. So the little pots are now sitting in the cold frame, away from pecking birds.

If you would like to become involved in any way with the garden please call Judy (872408). And visit Tideswell Kitchen Garden Group Facebook Page to see how we get on throughout the year.
