TLHG members are busy producing the DVD and booklet and catching up with recordings etc. We still have a few more to do and these will be passed to our two wonderful ladies, Jean Jackson and Sandra Howard who have been typing up these transcriptions. Our thanks to you both.
We have received a very interesting email from former resident, Sean Walton who lived on Gordon Rd,; his mother Lily was our librarian for many years. His great grandfather was a William Oldfield who owned the house ‘Tondu’ on Buxton Road. He was the person who installed the clock at Tondu and being a travelling watchmaker, he acquired two monkeys from Belle Vue Zoo. They came to live with the family and often played in the plantation opposite the house. One was called Ginny. Does anybody out there remember stories about these monkeys?
Sean is also asking if anybody knows anything about ‘Tideswell & District Motorcylce Club’. There is a badge bearing this title in his brother’s possession which belonged to his grandfather Thomas Wyche of Whyche’s Chippy. If anybody has any knowledge about these two subjects would you please contact us on our usual email – tlhg@btinternet.com. We will put a photo of the badge in Gratton Gardens.
Thank you to all who have let us have ‘video recordings’ of past carnivals and photographs of past Flower Festivals, the originals will be returned to you in due course.
