Soroptimist International of Buxton and District celebrated the 80th birthday of the National Federal SIGBI (Soroptimist International of Great Britain and Ireland,) by holding an Open evening, to which guests were invited.
Members gave brief talks about the life of the club, of SIGBI, and many of the activities which they enjoy. The Friendship Links with Kerteminde in Denmark, and the Isle of Man were described, with some colourful reminiscences.
The recent launch of the Mary’s Meals Back Pack Project was another highlight of the evening. Tideswell Guides held a very successful evening the previous week, and provided several more back packs, as well as raising over £260 towards the funds.
Region President Elaine McDonald cut the 80th birthday cake, to share with members. An informal, happy and fruitful evening was enjoyed by members and guests alike. They are busy raising funds for other projects such as Water Aid, and The Women’s Refuge at Glossop. Many friendships have blossomed over the years and new members have joined at this happy meeting.
