Hello all. A brief but interesting update from us. At the moment we are busy behind the scenes working on the D.V.D. and Booklet which will be produced and delivered to each household in the village, our project deadline is springtime next year but that is not to say it will end, our small group will continue to add your memories and photographs to the archives. Now, talking about photo’s – does anybody out there have any snaps related to either the first or second world war – if so, can we beg a copy off you.
I recently received a letter from Germany. Mr Hans Peter Plas is visiting our area in July, he’s researching a Karl Philipp Moritz who travelled through Tideswell and Castleton in 1782, in his diary he describes several landmarks, one being the ‘Gibbet Rock’ and a small ‘Public House’ in Tideswell which gave him accommodation. He enquires about the ‘Great Philosopher’ who lived in a house near our village and lots of other interesting facts. If anybody can help or would like to read the notes, please contact me for a copy.
By the time you read this, the performance by Tideswell Community Players and Tideswell Singers will have taken place in the church during Wakes Week. Thank you to everyone who worked on this performance, to all of you who provided the material to make it possible and to those who came along to watch it.
