Taste Tideswell reaches out

Taste Tideswell and the Tideswell School of Food are all about growing, cooking, promoting (and of course) eating good local food. Earlier this year Taste Tideswell launched a community subgroup, involving as many of the community groups in Tideswell as possible. This aims to look at how we can reconnect people with growing and preparing food, and to find practical ways to get Tideswell on the food map, not just for visitors but for the people who live and work here.

We’ve had two meetings so far with people from groups around the village, and talked about a variety of possible projects. These have included plans for planting apple trees around the village, an update on the amazing community kitchen garden (call round and see how it’s going – it’s looking really good), and news on how Tideswell School of Food will be working with schools. Other things we hope to get involved with include: working older and younger people in the village, such as the residents at Nicholson Court, pupils at the local schools, and members of the Cubs and Scouts; helping people to plant good things to eat in currently unloved pieces of ground; and supporting existing and new local food projects around the village.

If you’ve got any ideas how the community subgroup could get involved in growing cooking and eating projects in the village, if you know of anywhere that could be home to fruit, vegetables or herbs, or if you would like to be a part of the group, please call in to speak to Suzanne at the bookshop, or email suzwriter@googlemail.com.
