Monday 31st March – Tideswell U14s played their 2nd match of the season against a highly-rated Hathersage side and ran out 3-1 winners thanks to a hat-trick from Lewis.
The game started with Tideswell in control and it was no surprise when they took the lead after a mazy run by Lewis on 15 minutes. The rest of the 2nd half was a strong defensive effort as Hathersage came back strongly. The defence was expertly marshalled by James who put in a man-of-the-match performance. Adam was powerful as James’s centre-back partner and Josh and Alex made some important tackles at full-back.
The 2nd half was much improved, following an inspiring half-time team talk from the boss Mr Buckley. The midfield began to link up well and Joel and Lee swapped passes neatly. Luke played a superb ball through which was matched by Lewis’s delicate lob over the approaching keeper from the edge of the 18 yard box. 2-1! And Tideswell continued to press forward with Ben, Theo and the other Josh showing great skill and strength in the middle of the park. Lewis made it 3-1 with a great finish and the rest of the match was a massive defensive effort and Matt in goal made a series of fabulous saves with the Hathersage striker clean through each time. The final whistle blew and Tideswell ended up deserving their 3-1 win.
