Every now and again things take one by surprise. I’m sure we can all think f examples but the one that springs to my mind has been the success of the Couch to 5K(ilometres) group started by Tideswell Running Club back in January.
I imagined that a hardy handful would turn out and over the ensuing 12 weeks, numbers would dwindle to one or two. But no. Over 20 turned up in the dark and cold of a lonesome Monday in early January. Now as the evening lengthens only three or four have dropped out (and for valid reasons of injuries only). The official meet on Monday is supplemented by a Wednesday run along the railway line and groups head off on a Saturday or Sunday to put in the third run of the week.
The culmination of their 12 weeks’ training is the No Walk in the Park run in Chesterfield on 5th April. Let’s raise a cheer to those fabulous souls who have endured the wettest winter ever and here’s to many more surprises.
