Isla comes to Tideswell

Singer and broadcaster Isla St Clair presents and performs a selection of popular songs, classics of their time, and tells the story behind them in her show Eyes Front. It’s a delightful combination of live performance and film about music in wartime from Napoleonic times, through to the popular hits of two world wars and the 1950s.

Joining Isla in her performance in St John the Baptist Church is film maker Patrick King who gives a fascinating and humorous “behind-the-scenes” look at the making of some award winning documentary films. Using film clips they illustrate how songs and music played an important part in people’s daily lives: for boosting morale, for propaganda or for just reminding people of better times.

Isla St Clair is one of Britain’s foremost traditional singers and has won many accolades including “Folk Singer of the Year”. She is also remembered by millions for her numerous television appearances, most notably as co-host of BBC’s classic family show Generation Game, for which she won “TV Personality of the Year”. “Isla’s voice is beautifully pure…” Sunday Times Magazine.

Brought to the village through Live and Local, this rich mix of song, film, funny out-takes and interaction with the audience, makes for a light hearted family show that is both informative and wonderfully entertaining. It’s bound to be very popular so don’t miss it. 7:30pm Saturday 5th April. Tickets £9.50 and £7.50 (concessions) from Tideswell Post Office, Litton Shop, theatre@tideswell.net and 01298 871063.
