Why Are Resolutions So Hard To Keep?

How many people find this scenario familiar? There’s something you’ve decided to stop doing, or start doing, and you definitely want to make the change, but somehow you just don’t get around to it, or you change for a little while then slide back into your old ways. Most of us have some habit that we’d prefer to drop, or a new one we’d like to take up. The trouble is, we’ve hard-wired our brains to have us act a certain way. It will take more than just a wish to change it. Driven by programs in the sub-conscious mind, the body automatically does the habitual thing. No need to beat yourself up about it – it’s just the way the human mind-body system works.

The good news is, it really need not be so difficult. It takes about 30 days to establish a new habit, during which time the brain literally re-wires to accommodate the change in behaviour, making it easier. There are thinking tools and techniques which can help during that change-over time.

Why not find out how to make your New Year’s resolutions stick, on 7 January in Bakewell, 8 January in Matlock or 14 January in Tideswell? It’s free and it might just change your life!
