Saturday 11th January sees the Special Event arranged by Tideswell Cinema, from 15.30 to 20.30. Brighten a gloomy winter’s day by joining us on two adventurous ‘train journeys’! All at The George, with a meal between. The first film is the Hitchcock classic thriller “Strangers on a train”. Can two complete strangers get away with murder? This is followed after our meal by “Throw Mamma from the train”, a comedy inspired by the Hitchcock film, starring Danny DeVito and Billy Crystal.
The meal costs £10 and must be pre-booked. Please contact Margaret Filer on 01298 871681/mfiler@uwclub.net for the menu choice and to book your seat. The films cost £5 for both (free to members). Please book by Tuesday 7th, so that we can arrange the meals with The George. A highly recommended fun event.
The film of the month will be shown on Thursday 16th, at 19.30 at The George, and is the black comedy “Withnail and I”, described as ‘one of Britain’s best cult films’. Made in 1986 and starring Richard E. Grant and Paul McGann, it is set in the late 60s. The plot follows two ‘resting’ (unemployed) young actors who decide to leave their squalid Camden flat for an idyllic holiday in the Lake District. However, the trip goes from bad to worse, with non-stop rain, lack of food and non-existent survival skills.
Guest members are welcome on the night (£4.75).
