Millers Dale and District WI held their Annual Meeting in Litton Village Hall on Wednesday 14th November 2013; Sylvia Jennings, a WI Adviser, chaired the well attended meeting. No balloting was necessary as the president and committee were all prepared to stand again. The Financial Report was given and accepted, and The Secretary’s Annual Report included how many good speakers and varied outings we had enjoyed during 2012/13.
Sylvia Jennings said the WI is on a high at the moment; many new branches are being formed, but the WI is changing.
The evening’s speaker was Alan Salt, ‘The Cheese Man’. He gave a very interesting, funny and informative talk on the history of cheese. He had worked at The Old Cheese Shop in Hartington until its closure in 2009. However, three years ago a friend had suggested they start making cheese again and, with three other partners, they rented Pike Hall to make their cheeses. They opened on 17th October 2012 and produced ‘White and Blue Peakland’; these are now on sale in The Old Cheese Shop, Hartington, Market Shop, Chesterfield, and Chatsworth Farm Shop. They are hoping to start selling Stilton by Easter 2014.
We all agreed it had been a most memorable and enjoyable Annual Meeting.
Our next meeting is on 9th December and this will be our Christmas lunch at Sickleholme Golf Club.
