Soroptimists

The members met at the Old Hall hotel, Buxton for their September meeting , the start of the new Term.

Ian Taylor gave a fascinating talk on Family History and the vote of thanks was given by Shirley Hope. At the close of the Summer Term, Don Innes had spoken to members about Safeguarding, a meeting which was enjoyed in the sun.

During the summer break, many members had been on holidays. Meanwhile, Sara, Fiona and Jackie held a Garden Party for the BIG (Birthing In Gambia ) Project which the international organisation is running. With Mavis, they organised a clay pigeon shoot to raise funds for Guide Dogs for the Blind, and the Air Ambulance appeal. Each event raised over £500 for these great causes. These energetic ladies are thanked not only by the charities they supported, but also by the remaining members of the club.

Region Vice President Elaine McDonald has invited Soroptimists from all over the Region to her “Away Day” which will take place in Leicester, the home of Richard 111. Sara has been busy again…this time organising a trip on the Judith Mary 11, in Whaley Bridge.

The next dinner meeting at the Old Hall will be on 16th October, when the speaker will be Nicola Crawford, representing the Medical Diagnostic Dogs charity.
