Fine weather and moorland scenery made for a most enjoyable walk last month. Moreover at the start, the landlady of the pub in Wildboarclough unlocked the pub agreeing to let us have one bag of crisps if we returned for tea and scones later.
It’s a peaceful area with few people about. It was unusual to see a flock of about thirty partridge near Crag Hall. Our destination was the Three Shires Head where several ancient tracks converge at two packhorse bridges. The waterfall is attractive but not spectacular and I had been surprised to see it in a list of the most popular in the country. In my opinion it’s the combination of features that give this secluded spot such great appeal.
