Miller’s Dale & District W.I. met in Litton Village Hall on Wednesday 10th. July. Judy Cooper, our President, welcomed all members and 2 visitors. The business meeting included the date of The Autumn Federation meeting (1st. October ‘13) in Derby; also a new date for the Derby quiz, now 6th. September ‘13. The previous one in March had to be cancelled due to the snow. The members were also asked for volunteers to help with the catering during three visits to The Hall in August; this was finalised later. We were reminded that there is no meeting in August. We are also trying to arrange a Craft Day in September.
Judy then introduced the Speaker – Mr. John Firth, who gave us an excellent talk and demonstration on making cards and different methods of folding them. He started with a short resume of how he came to be in Tideswell. He then went on to talk about greeting cards and how, just by using varying folds, they became quite different. He had many examples and ended his talk by giving us all a card to cut out and fold. We all thoroughly enjoyed this experience – with lots of chats during our folding efforts!
The next WI meeting is on September 11th. at 7.30pm in our usual venue Litton Village Hall. The Speaker is Mr. Robert Alan-Havel and his talk is entitled The Dolphin Experience.
