So many people had been in the village on Big Sat’dy that I wondered how much litter there’d be next morning. The Pot Market was clear, all excess rubbish having been bagged and stacked neatly by the bins before 8 a.m. Mick Dalton was his usual cheerful self and deserves our appreciation for his efforts.
On the Saturday at the end of Wakes Week, Tideswell Cricket Club runs the car park at the Industrial Estate where visitors leave their cars. It’s nice to welcome people to the village and promise them their vehicles won’t be stolen or destroyed while they’re enjoying the procession.
We also get the hikers who have come to do some walk they’ve found in a book, starting with parking in a sleepy Peak District village. They are always amazed by how much is going on, and that’s amusing too.
Visitors are usually happy when they come back to their cars, but this year we had a particularly large number who were very complimentary about everything they’d seen. The sun coming out in good time obviously helped, but I’d like the Wakes Committee to know that their hard work was appreciated by quite a few people who’d come to Tideswell for the day.
What a fantastic Wakes Week !!! Congratulations to the new Committee. From the Anchor down to “Tidza by the sea” the whole week had such a “buzz”. Dancing in the torchlight along side a young girl called Millie (who knew all the steps incidentally, so tradition will carry on) to the Steel Band on Big Saturday, then Tidza Band & Punch & Judy. Wow, fantastic. Thank you all.
And finally a message from the Committee… Tideswell Wakes Committee would like to say a massive THANK YOU to all of you Tideswellians and those from surrounding villages for your support during Wakes 2013.
The week was a great success and we really couldn’t have done it without you all behind us. There were times when stress levels rose but your supportive comments and encouragement kept us going!
We are in the process of finalising our accounts but we can confirm on the street collections alone we raised an amazing £1600!!!!! We are now looking for local clubs and associations who would like a contribution so do please get in touch with us and see how we can help you!!
We will let you know the full amount we raised at our AGM meeting in September but for now we will leave you alone, stop asking you for money and let you enjoy the rest of the summer!!
Enjoy this time without us around, because before you know it, it will be Wakes Week 2014 and we will be back….because as you all know by now…WEHEARTTIDZAWAKES! Liz, Chair, TWF
