Litton Parish Council

Good news for residents of Litton Mill. The Council has agreed a programme of works to improve the area around the village green. This has been made possible by the willingness of villagers to help with some of the work and residents of Litton Mill flats contributing to the costs of shared boundary work. A big thanks goes to Councillor Chris Thirtle who has worked hard to bring the programme together and who will now be managing it to completion. See your local Parish Council Notice Board for updates from Chris.

There is also good news for Cressbrook. MWH, contractors for Severn Trent Water Authority, have said they will soon be in a position to start their community work project, landscaping the village green. This is great news and a heartfelt thank you must go to former councillor Una Hill who started the project and who has continued to be involved with Councillor John Butler who is now the Council’s point of contact with MWH.

This is the time of year when residents, the churches and the school are at their busiest supporting the wonderful range of events in our Parish. Wakes events and well dressing celebrations are enjoyed by all and this year was the first Litton Poetry Festival held as part of the Buxton Arts Festival. The Parish Council extends a very warm thank you to all those people and children who gave so generously of their time and energy to make these and other events a great success for all.

The Council continues to work away at more mundane matters but all with the aim of improving the way it works. We expected and received an audit report which was critical of the way the Council had managed its financial affairs in the recent past but as I write all the auditor’s recommendations have been implemented . We have reviewed our charges, some of which have remained the same since 2007, and adjusted them in the light of increasing costs and market rates. You can see information about these and other matters we are dealing with by looking at the minutes on the Council’s web-site at www.littonparishcouncil.co.uk

As many of you will know I took over the Chair in May this year from Gordon Rooke who had been Chair since September 2012. I would like to thank Gordon for steering the Council through a particularly difficult period and successfully appointing new Councillors and so providing a sound base for the development of the Council.

It will be August when you read this and we hope that you are all enjoying good weather and if it is the time when you go on a well deserved holiday – have a good one.
