We are well on the way to pulling our programme of events together and again would like to thank everyone who has already offered support, encouragement and wise words. However, Wakes Week just can’t happen without willing and reliable volunteers who help us to put on enjoyable, fun but above all safe events.
Volunteer Marshals or ‘Wakes Makers’ are required for all the main events during Wakes Week where we have a temporary road closures in operation. Although we have a good sized team of people on the committee, we can’t all marshal for every event and we usually need a minimum of 12-15 Marshals (marshals are only required for a maximum of 2 hours at a time). Marshals will be fully briefed before each event. The Head Marshal and key personnel supervising the event will also be in 2-way communication using radios to ensure that, if required, help or support can be summoned quickly. Volunteer marshals will also be given a Hi-Vis jacket to allow them to be easily identifiable and to reinforce their role as key members of the event Safety Team. Due to the responsible nature of the job, we will usually only be able to accept volunteers aged 18 years or over. However, if you are not yet 18 but would like to get involved, please get in touch. Please don’t be put off by the responsibility and time commitment. We really do need to find enough Marshals so that all of the planned events can go ahead.
