Red Envelope Week

It’s that time of year again, when that little red envelope will come through your letter box. Christian Aid Week begins on Sunday 12th May, and the theme is Bite Back at Hunger.

It is a sobering thought that there is enough food in the world for everyone, but one in eight people go to bed hungry every day. By giving during this fund-raising week, this actually changes that statistic. For example, in a specially dry part of Zimbabwe, Christian Aid has enabled their partner Dabane Trust to build a sand dam in the village of Gwanda, so villagers have a ready supply of clean drinking water, and a supply with which to water their market gardens – and now as a community they are not only surviving, but thriving. Your gifts really do make a difference.
If your collector misses you, envelopes can be dropped off at Poppies. Come along for lunch on 17th May at Fountain Square if you can – and the week will end with a service on Sunday 19th at 6 p.m. at the Roman Catholic Church. All are welcome. Last year we collected £2103 from Tideswell and Litton. Let’s together see if we can surpass that this year.
