First class opera, drama and ballet come to us live from London and Stratford at Tideswell Cinema, upstairs at the George Inn, throughout October.
First, we have Puccini’s La Boheme, featuring memorable music and a passionate love story, live from London’s Royal Opera House on Tue Oct 3 at 7.15pm. This tragic romance between penniless poet Rodolfo and seamstress Mimi is conducted by Antonio Pappano.
Next we have an encore of Shakespeare’s Hamlet from the National Theatre on Thur Oct 5 at 7pm. This production, starring Benedict Cumberbatch, was originally broadcast live in 2015 and is back due to public demand.
On Wed Oct 11 at 7pm we have Coriolanus, live from the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford. This full-throttle war play, with an intriguing relationship between a Roman war-hero and his equally fiery mother, will transfer to London’s Barbican after this broadcast.
Then on Mon Oct 23 at 7.15pm we have the Royal Ballet’s gloriously inventive Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, live from the Royal Opera House. This contemporary ballet created by Christopher Wheeldon was applauded all over the world on its first cinema relay in 2014. A wonderful explosion of colour, stage magic and startling choreography, it appeals to adults and children alike.
La Boheme and Alice in Wonderland are £15 (£12.50 concessions), and Hamlet and Coriolanus £10 (£7.50 for under-19s).
