They’ve done it again! Not only have the Wakes Committee provided us with an opening weekend to surpass all previous opening weekends, they given us fantastic weather to enjoy it in as well.
The five wells are, as ever, a treat and our superb main well, still the finest you’ll see in the whole of Derbyshire, is a masterpiece. The Community Well in its new home down by the Jockey, resplendent with Spitfire and L’Eroica cyclists a fitting tribute to the events of Sunday and the three wells produced by the children of the village, go to show that our splendid tradition has got a healthy and happy future.
Sunday will of course go down in people’s memories for years to come. The village was packed with locals and visitors alike all enjoying a jam-packed day. No one will forget the stunning flypasts. As one facebook correspondent wrote to the Wakes Committee – how are you going to top that? The Hurricane on Big Satd’y maybe!
