Tidsa Ramblers

It was a steady climb from Alport up to Robin Hood’s Stride where the silhouette of the rocks was striking. Having failed to find the hermit’s cave on this occasion a handily sited memorial bench seemed an ideal stop for lunch. The only drawback of the route was the number of cattle we encountered. There have been serious incidents involving walkers so we are wary. ‘Face the enemy’ is advice on the internet however our preference is to look for a detour. On a more positive note the sun shone all day and the view of Youlgreave on the last descent was exceptional.

The end of another walk recently was like no other! From within Padley Chapel a familiar Tideswell resident beckoned us to enter. Youngsters were singing enthusiastically to guitar accompaniment. We hadn’t known that a service was in progress and it wasn’t possible to be unobtrusive as the place is small but we relaxed when the priest acknowledged our presence. The interior of the chapel is a gem and the guided tour afterwards by our local acquaintance was much appreciated.
