There was little enthusiasm on a very wet morning for the planned destination of Kinder Scout. Spirits did perk up however at the suggestion of an alternative short walk. Bank Top wood, possibly unremarkable at other times of the year, was magical with May bluebells and we lingered in story book scenery. Vantage points on this new walk gave different views of familiar places.
The sun came out at midday. It was interesting to pass close to the two huge rectangles depicting the letters E and R which commemorate the coronation and are designed to be seen from Chatsworth. The letters are copper beech and the surrounding foliage leylandii. How fortunate that one of us had known of this lovely walk. The wood and commemorative feature are a few minutes walk from a lane near Calver crossroads on the Hassop road.
