As the longest day passes, Tideswell’s cricket team is moving towards the middle of the 2013 season. For a variety of reasons, there has only been one completed match on the Sports Complex ground, and it was a league game against the current Yorkshire & Derbyshire League 6th Division leaders, Hollinsend Methodists 3rd XI. But with 7 home games scheduled for July, all that looks set to change.

The League campaign is going well. Of the 8 teams in the 6th Div., TCC are now 3rd, just 1 point behind Norton Woodseats 2nd XI, who are the only team to have completed a full win over them. Although Tideswell suffered a losing draw at home to Hollinsend, they won away.

In all cricket, TCC’s record is won 7, lost 2, plus 1 losing draw. There was also an entertaining tie at Graves Park in Sheffield, in a friendly against the Dore Moor XI. Dore Moor scored 116 in the 20 overs, which Tideswell exactly matched in reply, with the 9th wicket pair at the centre.

Youth coaching is continuing on Thursdays, when the weather permits (Thursdays have been notably wet). Stuart the coach is optimistic that the youngsters he has will be able to form up a team at a later stage to play some friendly games against similar XIs.
