Parish Council Community Awards

The Parish Council award scheme started three years ago to honour the unsung heroes of the village.

There are a great many organisations within the community, and they run purely because of willing individuals who devote time and talents to the activities. The choice of winners is difficult, as the standard among so much Tideswell talent, is high.

For the first time, this year there was a special event to celebrate the winners. Previously the trophies have been given at the Annual Parish meeting. This time around a meal was enjoyed at the George Hotel in Tideswell to celebrate.

Under 25 category winner is Ellie Koyander. Ellie has surpassed all sports achievements of anyone locally, by hard work, perseverance and determination, to become an Olympian. She represented team GB in 2010 skiing contests, and in a few months will again compete in the Winter Olympics.

Tideswell is very proud of her.

The over 25 category was won by Richard Lomas, who represents Tideswell sports in a different way.

Richard has devoted 30 years to Tideswell boys’ football teams. He has worked to promote and maintain the teams, So many budding footballers have been taken under his wing and he is an example of reliability, dependability and commitment.

Councillor Sue Barber presented the awards.
