The summer of 2013 marks the start of a new venture for Tideswell Cricket Club – Saturday league cricket. TCC has absorbed the remnants of the Sheffield Zingari team which previously played in the Yorkshire & Derbyshire League, and, as a new entrant to the League, has been put into a new 6th Division. There is one other Peak District team in this Division – Hathersage 2nds – and the rest are from the Sheffield and NE Derbyshire area.

This means 46-over cricket on a Saturday afternoon. Because the 6th Division is quite small, each team plays each of the others three times.

After three fixtures TCC are riding high: full points were awarded when Apperknowle 3rds failed to turn up, Chesterfield Barbarians 3rds were comfortably beaten, and the match v Hollinsend Meths 3rds was rained off without a ball being bowled.

A reduced programme of friendly fixtures has been arranged. Both Youlgreave and a new combined Hope Valley XI, playing at Hathersage, were on the losing side to Greg Taylor’s TCC, which means that Tideswell are so far unbeaten in 2013.

Local players Dan Shirt, Tim Pepper, George Brown and Matt Jellis have featured regularly in the XI, George finishing on 44no at Hathersage.

Coach Stuart Scoffins has begun training a group of 8-11 year olds on a Thursday after school. The eventual plan is to form a team to play other local youth XIs. For an introduction to TCC, ring Bob Walkden on 871804.
