April started well in the Kitchen Garden - we had a hard working group of volunteers who did a great job of getting the garden ready for planting but then a couple of nights later the winds wreaked havoc - the polytunnel greenhouse was uprooted and turned upsidedown. Three of us dismantled the greenhouse and rescued the plants, making a temporary coldframe and taking the rest indoors before the greenhouse could be re-erected but well secured. Thankfully most of the pots of seeds, seedlings and little plants were unscathed and have now been planted out and are thriving. The greenhouse is once more full of plants and seedlings ready to go out.
FOOD FESTIVAL – We had lots of visitors in the Garden on the day of the Food Festival despite the heavy downpours, it’s surprising how many people can shelter in a greenhouse and under a gazebo at one time. Thankfully it wasn’t raining when we did the BBQ.
