A gloomy Sunday morning, not the planned date for the monthly walk, so I’d opted for reading the paper. However a phone call from a fellow rambler changed matters and a few of us set out for a short stroll.
We were soon in lively conversation with a farmer who even apologised for mud on the track. Later, in the mist horses seemed to fill the width of the lane. Four splendidly groomed animals approached pulling a carriage containing a cheery family. This was our mood afterwards as we enjoyed a lunchtime drink in the convivial atmosphere of the George.
Our Christmas meal will again be at the Queen Anne in Hucklow. But from then on there’ll be little variation in future meals and venues – namely sandwiches and a field.
